Sense of Purpose

February 19, 2020 by Diane Leave a Comment

In these times of broken norms and upheaval in the world, the power of being in contact with our own sense of purpose cannot be overstated. When we are clear on what is purposeful, specifically for each of us, we are able to focus on and express what most powerfully brings us fulfillment as we live purposefully in this chaotic world.

We can easily get caught in the day to day details of problems to be solved, issues that threaten to rob us of our happiness, challenges that seem insurmountable. When you feel bogged down by challenges in your life, ask yourself: Will this matter to me in ten years?

Our daily choices are important and do have a large impact on our lives. However, if a particular challenge is not life altering in the long term, grand scheme of our lives, we can take it more lightly and bring a relaxed, more considered response to it.

Remembering our purpose takes us out of the weeds of day to day challenges, where our vision can be skewed, to the level of the soaring bird overhead, inspired and seeing the world from a broader perspective.

If you are not clear what your purpose is, look at what well-being qualities bring you the most joy in your life. Underneath everything we do are states of being we are wanting to experience. When we can identify those specific states that arise from doing the things we love, that indicates what is fulfilling and purposeful for us.

When we are in joy, we naturally light up our lives and all those who surround us. In the very living of our lives, we model for others how to live from that alive place. Others want to be around us and engage with us in order to experience this aliveness for themselves.

“Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”
Howard Thurman

It is magnetically attractive to be around people who are truly alive with purpose and passion for who they are and what they are doing. Imagine a world where everyone was living with a sense of purpose that enlivens their soul. What a beautiful world it can be.
