It really is our thoughts that make up our experience of life. We could find ourselves worrying all the time—about our families, our health, our jobs, our climate, our government—there is always plenty to fill that space.
Or we can choose to direct our thoughts towards all the wonderful things in our lives. And there are plenty. As I feel the heat rising to warm my home this morning, I look out my window and see a beautiful blanket of white snow decorating the trees and ground, the sun rising, casting a golden glow. And as I write this sentence, a herd of deer just galloped down the yard, one by one. I am filled with gratitude for being alive to witness this natural wonder.
Gradually, as I settle into meditation and drop more deeply into my body, all those anxious, worried thoughts recede a bit and I am left with a quiet silence that is so nurturing.
We can choose what we focus on and notice how it makes us feel as a result.
A few weeks back, a member of our yoga community died unexpectedly. That morning the yoga studio was filled with a solemn presence. As I lay in Shavasana, my body relaxing and letting go towards the end of the class, what seemed like a message from beyond entered my head. It said, “Open up to the love and support of the universe.” I was filled with a light filled sense of well-being. I realized in that moment that all of this love and support is always there for me, for us, and with a slight shift, we can receive it.
Wake up to the wonder bursting with surprise
Elements of magic right before our eyes.
Radiant perfection glowing in our hearts
Open up and feel it, let it light a spark.
