The anticipation is over. Here we are in the new reality. It is not only rocking our world, it is rocking the whole world with fear of what’s to come, what’s to be, how bad it will get.
This puts each of us in a dilemma: How to respond? On the one hand, vigilance is the price of democracy. But on the other hand, our well-being is at stake if we watch too closely. It is critical that we monitor and honor where that balance point is for each of us personally.
Being stressed and on high alert reeks havoc on our body, mind and spirit. The steady drip, drip, drip of cortisol into our system erodes our internal organs, shuts down the receptors in our cells, dampens our immune system and keeps us in a protective crouch. There is no growth, expansion or experience of our potential from a protective crouch. And fear is so seductive.
Taking action is a great antidote. The marches that took place all over the world were so inspiring. People empowered through and with community to speak their truth.
It is a time of awakening—to step forward and claim what we know to be right and true: that love and community will save the day, and that the power of the individual to make a difference has never been greater. By cultivating love, empathy and compassion, we move together toward transformation.
“When we have an experience of resource, possibility and permission, creativity soars to new heights and the advancement of global culture proceeds at light speed.” Penney Peirce
And it is a time for extreme self-care. To look away when it is all too much to see. To do what is healthy, grounding and life affirming in our own personal lives. That which will provide the foundation for our growth into a more and more purposeful, actualized being with a strong courageous voice.
What is this time asking us to do? Who are we being called to be? How can we use this time too to discover what’s possible to live an empowered life?
Rise up singing!
