Sing, Sing a Song

September 1, 2016 by Diane Leave a Comment

On Saturday, September 17th at 7:00 we will be gathering at the Inner Balance Studio in Patterson, NY to sing, play, listen and connect with music. Everyone is welcome. If you’d like a copy of the song list, or to add to it, email info@innerbalancestudio.org.

“Music is a world within itself, it’s a language we all understand.”— Stevie Wonder

I love to sing—alone with my guitar, or with my husband, playing banjo, or with a few people or with a roomful of people. It is a delightful experience for me like none other, no matter what form it takes.

“Music is the wine that fills the cup of silence.”— Robert Fripp

There is a delicious feeling as if the vibrations in and around me are massaging my soul. I feel in deep connection and harmony with those I am playing with, as well as with the universe itself.

“For me there is something primitively soothing about this music, and it went straight to my nervous system, making me feel ten feet tall.”— Eric Clapton

All energy is vibration. When we sing and play music, it moves from the unformed to the formed—it takes a specific shape designed by the composer, and interpreted and enhanced by the musician, of pitch and rhythm and space.

“He took his pain and turned it into something beautiful. Into something that people connect to. And that’s what good music does. It speaks to you. It changes you.” — Hannah Harrington

Singing moves energy inside of us, massaging our organs with the breath, engaging our heart and mind, and opening and cleansing our chakra system. From the root where the fire lives, up through the creative center of the belly, into the power center of the solar plexus, opening the heart with the contraction and expansion of the lungs, on to personal expression through the throat center, into the sinuses that stimulate the imagination and discernment of the third eye, on up to the crown that awakens the mind and releases the formed sound to the universe.

“Then the singing enveloped me.
It was furry and resonant, coming from everyone’s very heart.
There was no sense of performance or judgment,
only that the music was breath and food.”― Anne Lamott

Whether you consider yourself a good, bad or mediocre singer is not the point. To celebrate life with song is our birthright and one of our greatest potential experiences to enjoy. Let yourself have it. Raise your voice in song!

“I wake up to the sound of music, mother Mary comes to me,
speaking words of wisdom, let it be”.― Paul McCartney
