What started out as a new year with so much promise, took a temporary detour into illness for me. I just spent the last couple of weeks with the flu. And I must say, there is no truer statement than “if you don’t have your health, you don’t have anything”. Good health is a gift very much appreciated.
It’s been a rough season for many people’s health. I have reached out to friends and colleagues, only to find them sniffling, aching, and generally feeling lousy. If any of you are in this current state, hang in there, you will improve despite the feeling that this state of being will go on forever.
For me, this period has been a reminder to accept that this is what is going on now, through no fault of my own, to take the time necessary to heal, and to increase the level of gentleness and kindness I give myself in my own self-care.
It has also been a great opportunity to re-evaluate what matters and holds value for me. As I ease my way back into my active life, I have a new appreciation for all that I do. With my strength levels temporarily reduced, I am more discerning about where my energy goes and to what end. This has increased my effort to use what energy I do have for what is most important to me.
As we review our goals, plans, and dreams for the year, we can focus on eliminating distractions and time spent on activities that don’t bring us maximum value and pleasure. By being deliberate in our actions and conscious of where we allocate our energy we can create a more beneficial life for ourselves.
We can take a more active role in creating the life we desire by reviewing our goals, plans, and dreams and then choosing to spend our precious time and energy in alignment with those dreams. To good health!
