Yesterday I had the wonderful pleasure of singing harmony with Julie and Jeremy on some great old songs as they accompanied on guitar. Recently I have been singing harmony with Al, Don and Linda as they accompany on guitar, piano, mandolin and accordion. For me this is pure heaven! There is something delightful and very freeing that happens for me when I join with others in creative expression.
For years I felt my voice just wasn’t “that” good and lacked the confidence to do much publically except for the occasional performance. Instead I spent my creative time writing lyrics, songs, and doing other things.
Suddenly I realized I was denying myself this pleasure based on a false premise—the question is not how good I am, it’s how much pleasure does it bring me, and to that question I can answer: huge quantities of pleasure! And the surprising thing is that the more I sing, the more confident I become and the better I sound!
Is thinking you’re not good enough holding you back? Are you denying yourself the huge pleasure you could be having right now in your life because of a false premise about how good you are?
Today is all we have; tomorrow is uncertain—seize the day and live each to its fullest expression, trusting that the desire in your heart is there to be expressed. Step out with courage and before long you will be cultivating confidence.
Don’t put off the pleasure that can be had in the full expression of you.
