I’ve written recently about finding out what your gifts are and sharing them with the world. I’ve also written of the early deaths of several local teenagers. It is all connected. When we are connected to source energy we our supporting who we are, standing by our core.
When we are tuned into who we are and how we contribute to the community, our friends and families and therefore the world, we find meaning and purpose in our lives. This meaning and purpose can support us through the rough phases where we lose sight of who we are and how important our life is to not only ourselves, but also all those around us.
We are on this earth for a reason. I know this is my belief and yours may differ. Some think we are just blob of protoplasm and happened to evolve into the forms we currently take. Others think this is a kind of purgatory and if endured, gets us to paradise of many imaginings.
I certainly don’t know for sure, as none of us can, but I do know that this existence holds magic and mystery that is not to be missed. I know that meaning can be found in the gaze of a lover, the caress of a child, the creation of a work of art, the communion with nature, the joy of successful community projects and enterprise and on and on and on. We are surrounded by potentially meaningful experiences.
When we are shut down to our surroundings, feeling wounded by our past, numbing to stop the pain, we are closed off from this meaning—life looks bleak and hopeless, with no apparent sense to it all. We have fallen into a hole and can’t seem to muster the strength or desire to pull ourselves out. We isolate ourselves so others won’t see us this way, which just makes the condition worse.
This has happened to us all at one point or other. It’s a very painful place to be. Depression is epidemic in our culture. People run to doctors for help to pull themselves out of the hole. We have lost all sense of meaning and purpose, and have lost our connection to source energy.
If you are feeling frustration, uneasiness, fear or depression, then you are to varying degrees disconnected from source energy. Letting in who you really are is allowing your connection to source energy. And when you do, you feel love, appreciation, vitality, enthusiasm, passion, well-being.
To find this connection again first requires action—small steps in the direction of something life affirming. It is remarkable how such small, consistent steps can quickly change one’s state from darkness and isolation to connection and light.
By caring less about the opinion of others and asking for help, we find compassion and a helping hand that begins to turn the tide. We find others stories mirror our own and how by lending a hand to them, we are uplifted. Energy begets energy. New ideas and desires awaken. Stuckness moves to flow again. We ask the question: What do I want and need to live the life I long for? We begin to have the energy to create that for ourselves.
I believe we are put on this earth with a longing in our hearts for a reason—to live blissfully while contributing the best we have to give to make this a better world, one small step at a time.
Dear Diane,
A friend sent me your January 2012 post and it was exactly what I needed. I’m sorry to say I had never heard of you until now. I began surfing your website, listening to some of your shows, guest speakers and reviewing past posts. I came across your “connecting the dots” post and realized that I needed to be willing to look for my next dot. In an effort to isolate and not let others know my struggles I have been creating an illusion of safety when in fact I just become more fearful.
Thank you Diane for following YOUR heart’s desire to want to help others find theirs. I feel confident I will find my next dot!
Hi Donna–Thank you for your comments. I am happy to hear my words were what you needed to hear. If I can be of any further assistance, just let me know. Best to you~
